Simonides,

I understand why you told me, and why the object cannot remain solely in private hands forever.

If it can do even half of what you suspect, this is not merely your danger or Naukros’. The Isles must eventually be warned and prepared. But we cannot place it before the councils until we know which officials will understand the threat collectively and which will see only an advantage for their own city, faction, or purse.

A careless disclosure could reach the Dominion, or any number of private interests before the Isles have agreed on how to proceed. Once that happens, secrecy will no longer be ours to surrender.

Give me time, I will make quiet inquiries. Nothing about the object itself, only enough to learn who thinks beyond the interests immediately in front of them, and who cannot be trusted with knowledge that might be sold.

We need to know whom we can safely bring into the room before we open the door.
