Backstory
Bhaz grew up on the island of Okekos with his family and his best friend, Vix. His father was a doctor who died during a terrible plague that swept through the jungle in Bhaz’s youth. In the aftermath, Bhaz, Vix, and Bhaz’s younger brother, Chuk, grew very close as they struggled to survive and care for their mother, who had been left weakened by the disease. They relied on one another, Chuk’s intellect in particular, to get them through whatever trouble they encountered. Chuk was always looking toward the horizon, and his wanderlust eventually led him, Bhaz, and Vix to become pirates, one of the only livelihoods available to them outside the jungle.
They traveled down to Tortoise Cove to acquire a boat. Chuk managed to secure a loan through means he was unwilling to share with his older brother or friend. With the money he obtained, they were able to purchase not only a boat but also the services of a navigator and gunner. They recruited Metsu and Yilred and set off on their adventure. Due to their inexperience and eagerness to leave, however, they soon encountered a vicious storm that swept Chuk overboard.
Bhaz was distraught. Once the storm finally subsided, he searched and raided every nearby island he encountered, hoping either to find his brother or to quiet the grief in his heart. He continued searching, destroying anything that stood in his path, whether good or bad, and it was during this period that the small crew encountered, and freed, Meryn. He was stopped only when he reached Master Kame’s shores. The old turtle taught him to release his guilt and grief and set him on a better path.
